Classification:       Full-time, Salary Exempt, 12 months, Benefits Eligible

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for all payroll, accounting and financial reporting. In addition, the Senior Accountant serves in a pivotal role and works closely with the Executive Director on assigned projects.  The position leads a team of three accounting staff; however, will work to assess the current state of needs and design proposal for the future state for the accounting function of the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the accounts payable functions and supervises staff
  • Monitors and maintain the general ledger accounting system
  • Create new accounts, update, and maintain existing accounts
  • Responsible for payroll system, accounting, and process
  • Create, modify, and maintain financial reporting
  • Create and upload the 1099s
  • Maintain the vendors lists and accounting
  • Able to maintain and establish vendor relationships
  • Keep the general ledger and subledgers updated
  • The completion and control over the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, including the creation of new accounts when needed
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual, and such other financial statements and statistical reports as may be required
  • Prepares the budget to actual and cash forecast reports monthly and as needed
  • Generate financial reports monthly
  • Prepares and inputs the Detailed Budgets into the Accounting system
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly operating and grant budget-to-actual reports
  • Prepares and/or posts monthly journal entries for the organization, expensing various prepaid assets, depreciation & amortization expenses, postage & supplies usage expense, and cash balances adjustments for the items in the bank statements
  • Prepares assigned monthly bank reconciliation for the organization’s bank accounts
  • Manages and reconciles the organization’s credit card accounts
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts monthly
  • Prepares schedules in support of the annual grant audits
  • Works closely with the auditors by providing requested information, preparing audit schedules, and responding timely to questions
  • Assists direct report(s) accounts payable related functions, including processing, transmission and analysis of data as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, with three years double entry accounting experience, preferably with tax-exempt, not-for-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) and with 501(c)(6) IRS designations
  • MBA and/or CPA a plus
  • Must be extremely proficient and knowledgeable with computerized fund accounting and payroll software (preferably Sage and QuickBooks)
  • Knowledge of Salesforce system a plus
  • Must be proficient in the use of MS Office programs, especially possess expert proficiency in Excel
  • Must be familiar with non-profit grant writing, development, and management

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle, or feel to talk and to hear. The employee, frequently, is required to walk, reach with hands and arms to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
